swissnex Brazil’s mission is to nurture the Swiss innovation ecosystem with ideas, concepts, and contacts to help Switzerland maintain and strengthen its competitive edge. We foster dialogue and enable collaboration among opinion leaders, researchers and practitioners in education, science and innovation between the Brazil and Switzerland.

A public-private venture, we are the youngest addition to a growing network of outposts in Bangalore, Boston, San Francisco, and Shanghai, initiated by Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). swissnex works with public and private sector partners, sponsors and donors who are equally committed to furthering Switzerland’s leading position as an innovation nation.

swissnex Brazil was officially inaugurated in April 2014. Still in its infancy, the organization’s medium-term goals are to build in-depth knowledge of the Brazilian innovation ecosystem; to strengthen its local network of high-level representatives from academia and business; and to implement out-of-the-box signature projects and events to ignite cross-continental conversations and showcase Swiss excellence in science and innovation.

Communications Manager

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Take full ownership of the development and professional implementation of swissnex Brazil’s communications strategy; closely collaborate with the team to communicate projects, events and success stories in a creative and effective manner; continuously update your knowledge about communications tools of relevance to swissnex’s work; and contribute new ideas and initiatives to further swissnex’s unique mission and objectives. This includes:

  • General Communications: take a leading role in further developing, strengthening and implementing a fresh and innovative strategy for on- and offline communications
  • Web & Social Media: develop a solid strategy and ensure a coherent and innovative presence of swissnex Brazil across various web/social media channels
  • Digital Marketing: apply marketing strategies to increase the outreach of swissnex services among potential clients
  • Event Planning & Management: active contribution to events and delegation visits
  • ‘Connecting the dots’ & Networking: act as a connector between people and ideas


Detailed Overview of Task

General Communications:

  • Take full charge of the coordination of all communications activities, the work of the Junior Project Manager and the management of the external suppliers,
  • Provide guidance and take charge of communications tasks associated with projects/events, incl. graphic work and content creation for invitations and mailings (Mailchimp),
  • Take lead in PR strategy and act as main contact point for press agencies for events/projects
  • Develop, create content for, and implement mailing of swissnex Brazil Newsletter
  • Create content and do basic graphic work for promotional materials (flyers, banners, etc.)
  • Take full charge of planning, coordination and content creation for Annual Report
  • Maintain database of contacts, as well as manage mailing lists for invitations, newsletters, etc.
  • Coordinate network-wide communications projects with colleagues from other swissnex offices
  • Assist colleagues in creation and formatting of presentations and public speeches
  • Update Communication Plan to maintain the strategy coherence,
  • Care for brand guidelines and usage.

Digital Marketing:

  • Fine-tune social media strategy and ensure coherent, active presence across channels
  • Create tailored content for different channels according to audience needs
  • Help create online campaigns for launching new services and products
  • Proactively and continuously identify and, when relevant, implement new tools and methods for digital communication
  • Maintain, update and develop content for swissnex Brazil’s website (Portuguese & English)
  • Track metrics and ensure that digital efforts appear on achievement reports

Event Planning & Management:

  • Fully take charge of public relations and communications related to events and projects
  • Assist colleagues in the planning and implementation of public programs
  • Help identify and contact potential speakers and participants

‘Connecting the dots’ & Networking:

  • Reactively and proactively promote collaboration between people and organizations in Switzerland and Brazil
  • Attend events, conferences, meetings as a swissnex representative and share contacts, findings and learnings with the swissnex team

  • Proven experience and achievements in communications, digital marketing, public relations
  • Proven network of media and communications professionals
  • Professional mastery (reading and speaking) of Portuguese language
  • Professional mastery of English language
  • Professional mastery of at least one (1) Swiss national language is a plus
  • International experience (Brazilian and Swiss experience a plus)

Startup Project Manager (to help implement the CTI Market Entry Program)

(São Paulo- based)

Key Responsibilities

The Startup Program Manager is a hands-on startup coach with a passion for entrepreneurship and a high level of curiosity for new technologies. The position reports directly to the CEO and, in close collaboration with the Head of the São Paulo Office and to the Innovation and Startup Project Manager, has the following primary responsibilities:

  • ‘Connecting the dots’ & Networking: proactively reach out to relevant contacts and act as a connector between people and ideas
  • Event Planning & Management: planning and implementation of events, projects and learning expeditions/delegation visits
  • Partnership Development: identify locations and form lasting partnerships with leading local institutions for São Paulo-based events
  • Research: on- and offline research on specific themes as requested by stakeholders

Detailed Overview of Tasks

‘Connecting the dots’ & Networking:

  • Build local know-how and trusted relationships with prime local representatives of science, technology, and business
  • Build a strong startup related network in the São Paulo region and in Switzerland (attend events, conferences, meet with experts, etc., incl. 1 promotional roadshow in Switzerland)
  • Attend meetings, events, conferences as a swissnex representative, and share contacts, findings, and learnings with the swissnex team, both in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo
  • Reactively and proactively promote collaboration between people and organizations in Switzerland and Brazil

Event Planning & Management:

  • Manage the CTI Market Entry Program in São Paulo (identify and manage Swiss technology- and science-based startup pipeline, build a strong network of local coaches and partners, implement the program incl. communications, reach out, logistics, reporting, etc.)
  • Advise Swiss technology- and science-based startups regarding Brazilian market activities/opportunities (7 – 10 per year)
  • Organize individual and group startup camps (3 – 6 per year)
  • Conduct research and brainstorm for events in close collaboration with the swissnex team (identify and contact potential speakers; identify and secure high-visibility event locations; and identify funding sources and draft funding requests)
  • Support other startup initiatives at swissnex Brazil (e.g. Gaming Tour, Academia-Industry Training, etc.)
  • Assist with the organization of delegations (multi-day group visits to São Paulo)
  • Implementation of events (incl. communications, reach out to guests, logistics, reporting, etc.)

Partnership Development:

  • Identify and onboard leading, value-adding local partners for events and projects in general
  • Identify and onboard key opinion leaders, experts, mentors and coaches for the CTI Market Entry Program
  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities with Swiss partners in close coordination with HQ


  • Assist in conducting on- and offline research and write reports on science, technology, education and innovation topics as defined in collaboration with HQ and/or stakeholders
  • Conduct fact-finding missions and market survey/research for specific sectors Brazil which are relevant for Swiss technology- and science-based startups
  • Follow trends both in the Innovation landscapes in Brazil and Switzerland
  • Technology scouting for innovation partners

  • 1 – 2 years of startup related work experience
  • International experience (Swiss experience a plus)
  • Experience working with a myriad of stakeholders / managing complex requests
  • Experience managing events, projects and/or programs
  • Familiarity with the Swiss and São Paulo startup ecosystems (proven network of relevant contacts, incl. startup related contacts, in the São Paulo region a plus)


  • Excellent people, communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills
  • Excellent team-oriented working skills
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task
