The first talks@swissnex of 2017 is proud to host Hubert Klumpner, vice-dean D-Arch at ETH Zürich, Urban-Think Tank (U-TT) Chair of Architecture and Urban Design and Swiss University Hub for informal housing / UN-Habitat Winner of the 2012 Venice Biennal Golden Lion.
In a world in which bottom-up and top-down intentions hardly converge, well-intentioned spatial planning usual means standstill. Urban-Think Tank, an interdisciplinary design practice dedicated to high-level research and design, aspires to attain a now imperative change of paradigms in urban development. Urban-Think Tank focuses on dynamically alternative urban design concepts and influential urban design solutions aiming to bring about a revolution in urban development. Hubert Klumpner, who holds the Chair of Architecture together with Alfredo Brillembourg in the ETH Zurich, proposes several of these concepts and projects of the Urban-Think Tank.
In his talk, Klumpner will discuss the case of Urban-Think Tank’s first Brazilian project – winner of the Holcim Gold Latin America Award – the culture-factory Grotão, a vertical dance and music school located in Paraisópolis, São Paulo.
