Its Research Laboratories generate knowledge on several aspects in a variety of infection diseases – AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever, Zika, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, leptospirosis, hepatitis, leprosy, meningitis, among many others – as well as chronic degenerative diseases such as muscular dystrophy and behavioral disorders. The Institute also takes part in environmental studies, prospecting of pharmaceuticals and development of new vaccines, diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies.
