Brazil becomes one of the first to adopt internet ‘Bill of Rights’

President of Brazil  signs into law a groundbreaking bill passed by Brazil’s Congress safeguarding the rights of Internet users.
The idea of an improved information society was the main goal of the declaration adopted at the Multisectoral Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance (NETmundial). With widespread participation from government, academia, technicians, and civil society the document calls for a truly global governance network moving away from the current concentration in the United States. According to the text, the operation of the network should be based on transparency, openness, accessibility and linguistic diversity. The transition to such a global multi-stakeholder model is the subject of the second part of the declaration, which points to the network as a catalyst for sustainable development and social inclusion.
