FinPINTech: Swiss FinTech Landscape

The Phenomenon of FinTechs has taken a big dimension over the world, and new financial technologies are coming to the market every day. Switzerland places itself as a worldwide leader in FinTech, and many start-ups decided to relocate their companies there. A regulatory ecosystem is one of the most influential points. Indeed, the financial sector is very much linked to regulatory and having the support of the government is a great added value to this new FinTech era. Providers of cryptocurrencies solutions are the first ones to benefit from these advantages.

The canton of Zug with its famously known “Crypto Valley” is considered a global center for cryptocurrencies where new storage solutions or new digital currencies are developed. The success of this crypto-movement has many factors: finance tradition, stable democracy, robust IT environment, innovative ecosystem and high-skilled workforce. Switzerland as a small country with eased contact between all the players and fast bureaucracies, facilitates this process of market entry to the country. Companies in the region are also forming clusters to offer expertise in Crypto securities. That’s the case of Douglas Bakkum, CEO of Shift devices, a startup that provides a cryptocurrency hardware wallet called Bitbox, who presented this Panel with Marc Lussy, senior advisor and mentor at F10, a leading Swiss Fintech Incubator & Accelerator in Zurich.

These two experts brought an interesting debate about the overall topic in this international event organized by swissnex Brazil in partnership with Inovabra Habitat and Swiss Business Hub.
